Disneyland's Build-Your-Own Lightsaber Options
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH THOSE PARENTS WHO FORKED OUT THE CASH FOR ONE OF THESE BABIES – WE DID NOT

Every family has their own thing that is super important when vising the happiest place on earth. From the day we first mentioned a little side trip to Disneyland during our visit to Joshua Tree, my boys talked about building their own lightsaber. It was one of those super important things that topped the list for our family.
Disney promotes this amazing experience at a place called Savi’s Workshop in the Galaxy’s Edge area of Disneyland. What they don’t promote is the exorbitant price which starts at $225 and goes up from there. Also not promoted is that these lightsabers are not retractable which makes them a bit of a burden when in the park.
With a starting price higher than the cost of all four of our tickets, this was not the build-your-own lightsaber option we chose.
What I am here to applaud is the super-affordable and retractable lightsabers that you can build at The Star Trader store at the exit to the Star Tour ride. My older son opted to get a single lightsaber to match the one he built six years ago at Disney World. His cost under $30. My younger son had never built a lightsaber. He chose to build a double-sided saber which cost less than $50.
And equally as great as the price is the fact that these lightsabers retract into themselves and I could easily put them in my bag if someone didn’t want to hold on to theirs at any point.
